Al Henderson works exclusively through the human figure and his sculptures range from handheld pieces to public monuments. His sculpture is focused on the subject represented but also carries an awareness of the work as an object separate from the original inspiration. He began sculpting by leaving school to open a studio in the Old Grain Exchange building in downtown Calgary, moved from the city to a log home in the woods of central Alberta and eventually settled in St. Albert. His interest in the use of the figure in art is fuelled by his own popular culture and his travels around the world both as a soldier and on his own. Note: this site shows a wide selection of work—not all pieces are available for purchase. If you are interested in any of the work you see or in commissioning new work, I would be pleased to hear from you. |
