I met Amy Schmitter at The U of A’s Philosophers’ Café where she threw out the question ‘What, if anything, do we need to know in order to appreciate artworks?’ The workshop was open to the public, which explains why I was there and I enjoyed it so much that I asked if she could spend some more time with me talking about philosophy and the arts. Amy Schmitter is an Associate Professor and Graduate Studies Coordinator with the University of Alberta’s Philosophy Department and has been both a student and teacher of Art, Art History and Philosophy for the past 27 years, with a
